This route offers a great opportunity to discover the diverse villages of Santa María de Cayón while enjoying a strong connection with nature, friendly locals, and some pleasant downhill stretches. However, the ride felt unsafe at times due to the lack of dedicated cycling infrastructure—most of the route runs directly on car roads with little or no separation or visual cues for cyclists, even if speed limits were marked at 30–40 km/h. We also encountered a few unexpected issues like a gate not marked on Google Maps, which forced us to re-route, and strong odors in areas with livestock waste. While the landscape is beautiful and the rural atmosphere charming, the lack of shaded rest areas and bike-friendly features limits its potential for safe and accessible mobility. With some improvements, this route could serve both locals and visitors much better.
